What would it be like if 8 Nobel Peace Laureates came together across time and space to discuss their ideas of peace with each other? This is the premise of The Invitation, an educational drama which brings together Albert Schweitzer, Linus Pauling, Martin Luther King, Jr., Alva Myrdal, Mother Teresa, Betty Williams, H.H. The Dalai Lama, and Shirin Ebadi. Join us as they discuss their ideas of peace! The words they speak are taken directly from thieir Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speeches.
The program will be held on Friday, August 31st at 7 pm at The Church Within, 1125 Spruce St. in Indianapolis. A reception with light refreshments follows, with time to "meet" the Peace Laureates. Sponsored by the School of Metaphysics, The Church Within, and Global Peace Initiatives. Call 317-251-5285 or e-mail somindianapolis@yahoo.com for more information.

NOTE: IPJN has agreed to encourage our member groups to support this effort. Let me know if you have any questions. --Sheila
Hello,
The Northwest Indiana Coalition Against the Iraq War is asking for your cooperation in promoting a resolution against escalation of the Iraq war due to be presented in the Indiana General Assembly.
Two NW Indiana legislators, Sen. Earline Rogers and Rep. Charlie Brown, have agreed to introduce such a resolution in the next week or so. The measure will be put forward by Rep. Brown in the House, where it has a better chance of passage, and then will go to the Senate.
Please do what you can to make your local state legislators aware of the resolution and ask them to give Rep. Brown and Sen. Rogers their support. The exact wording will be posted wjen it is available.
You (and they) may be interested to know that to date anti-escalation resolutions have been passed or are pending in 20 states (AZ, CA, CO, CT, GA, KS, ME, MA, MN, MO, MT, NJ, ND, OK, OR, RI, TX, VT, WA, WV).
Calls to members of the Indiana House and Senate and to the local press are encouraged. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Tony Shafton

When I first agreed to volunteer as the IPJN Webmaster, my main goal was to set up a site that would support dynamic content and be easy for our users to submit content to. I think that goal was met, but unfortunately it was a little too easy for people to submit content. Those of you who check the site frequently might have noticed what appeared to be a clearinghouse list for porn, knockoff designer handbags, and sexual dysfunction pharmaceuticals.
This website obviously stands for none of those things, so something needed to be done to stem the tide of SPAM comments and story submissions without having to spend an hour or two a day maintaining the comment section and submission queues. Congressional Outreach and Nonviolent Action To End Funding for the U.S. War in Iraq and To Support a Comprehensive Plan for Peace
Congratulations and thank you to all who organized and participated in the 375 Declaration of Peace events that took place across the U.S.A. in September 2006!
Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and more than 500 other organizations endorsed The Declaration of Peace. Scores of those organizations engaged in vigils, marches, demonstrations, readings of Iraq war victims, acts of nonviolent civil disobedience, and other activities in 120 cities across the country.
To build on this momentum, Declaration of Peace Phase 2 calls for action to urge the new Congress to end funding for war in Iraq and to establish a comprehensive plan for peace. This plan will include the goals of the Declaration of Peace campaign.
At a time when the violence increases in Iraq, it is clear that the US occupation must end, a comprehensive peace process must begin, federal funding must shift from permanent war to reconstructing Iraq and meeting human needs at home. Now is the time for Congress to defund the war and to declare peace.
Between now and the fourth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq in March, it is the goal of the Declaration of Peace to intensify pressure on the U.S. Congress to cut off war funding, to bring the troops home, and to support a comprehensive plan for peace. If our political leaders won’t carry out their clear mandate for peace, then we will respond in March 16-19 with dramatic and creative forms of peaceful resistance and nonviolent civil disobedience in towns and cities across the country.
